Obituary for Alex (William) Bruning

ALEX BRUNING

With sadness, the family of Alex Bruning announces his passing on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at the age of eighty-five.

Alex leaves behind his wife Diane Whitehouse, stepdaughters Sarah and Stephanie Whitehouse, their husbands Randy Schwartz and Darren Stebeleski, and granddaughter Alexandra.

Alex was born in St Louis, Missouri in 1937. He attended Washington University and the University of New Mexico, where he completed his M.A. in Fine Arts.

In 1969, Alex immigrated to Canada where he became a professor at the University of Manitoba School of Art. Alex was a well respected and admired teacher of painting and drawing until his retirement in 1998. After retirement, he continued painting and drawing while also pursuing his love of gardening, hiking with Diane, and walking his many rescued dogs. Alex journeyed through the last decade of his life with dementia, but he never lost his unmistakable sense of humour or his love of life.

The family would like to thank Lions Personal Care Centre for their caring and sympathetic support.

Alex was laid to rest on Friday December 9th at Brookside Cemetery with his family by his side.
Donations can be sent to the Winnipeg Humane Society or Doctors Without Borders.
