Obituary for Alice Palmer

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, on April 21, in her 100th year. Alice was born in Winnipeg, August 8, 1920, the daughter of Robert and Esther Wade. She was predeceased by Hughie, her husband of 52 years and best friend. She is survived by sister Esther McKillop, Surrey, BC, son Doug (Barbara) of Winnipeg, daughters Elaine (Harry) Beck, Middle LaHave, NS and Joyce (Greg) Wedmark, Enfield, NS. Also mourning are grandchildren Garrett Wedmark, Andrea (Derek) Underwood, and great grandson James Underwood, and special cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mom and Dad lived in Winnipeg and then spent very happy retirement years at the family cottage in Ponemah, Manitoba. Over the years, she loved to host many get togethers with family and friends.
Mom enjoyed traveling, whether it was a day trip with a picnic or road trips to all of Canada’s provinces. She could tell you her favourite historic sites or the best place to stop for lunch. She and Dad also were able to visit Europe, especially Holland, and to enjoy cruises to Alaska and Panama.

Mom’s church was very important to her. She was a life member of the Altar Guild and served as its president for many years at St. Thomas Anglican Church in Weston. She was a florist during the war and continued to enjoy her love of flowers, arranging weekly floral tributes as well as arrangements for weddings and decorations for harvest, Christmas, and other church festivals. In addition to life-long friendships at St. Thomas, Mom cherished the friends she made at All Saints Church in Whytewold, MB and St. Stephens in Winnipeg.

We wish to thank Rev. Colin McIvor for his friendship to Mom. Special thanks to the staff at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg who provided such wonderful care and kindness.

Cremation has taken place. Due to the current pandemic a private memorial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
