Obituary for Arno Guenther Giese

Arno, aged 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning at Oakview Place in Winnipeg. Arno was born in Germany in 1927. As a young man, he immigrated to Canada after the Second World War to explore the world. Settling in Manitoba he married Ruth (Gothlick). Together they raised a daughter - Willie and two sons - Peter and Gord. He was good with his hands, a regular handyman. Early in his life he became an electrician and had a long career working in private companies and with Manitoba Hydro.

Community was important to Arno. He was an active member of the Lutheran Church, often volunteering his handyman and electrical skills. Happy in the outdoors he spent many summers at the family cottage and sailing on Lake Winnipeg. He was well known in the Silver Harbour and Gimli yachting communities. Arno also enjoyed travel and made many road trips throughout his life across the country to visit family, friends and enjoy nature's scenery.

He is survived by his wife Ruth, his daughter Willie (Eldon), his sons Peter (Marilyn) and Gordon (Donna) and his grandsons Eric (Ilona) and Greg. Our family would like to thank the staff of Oakview Place for their compassionate care over the past few years.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
