Obituary for Bernice Borys

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Bernice Borys on April 9, 2020 at The Calvary Personal Care Home at the age of 89.

Bernice was predeceased by her parents Thomas and Winnifred Southern, her brother Gordon, her husband William (Bill), son-in-law Don Wood, Mother and Father -in-law Joseph and Margaret Borys, sisters-in-law Mary Seman, Alyce Borys, and Stephanie Grodecki.

Bernice will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by son Tom Borys (Jo-Anne), daughter Teresa Wood, granddaughter Wendy(Ryan) Miller, grandson Billy Borys, great grandsons Jordan and Noah Miller and Rose Anne Borys, niece Donna Cudmore(Ed) nephew Kerry Seman(Cathy), sister-in-law Ann Borys, great niece Melissa(Brent) and great, great nephews Angus and Frank , along with her many friends and the Wood Family.

Bernice was born May 14, 1930 to Thomas and Winnifred Southern. Growing up in Weston, Mom attended Cecil Rhodes and Daniel McIntyre Schools. Bernice married her school sweetheart, Bill on September 23, 1950. Bill passed away May 1, 1991. Bernice lived in the family home, that was built by Bill for 63 years. After leaving their home, she resided at Misericordia Interim Care and the last five years at Calvary Place.

Bernice and Bill had many fond memories of their Alexander Avenue home, where neighbours and friends enjoyed good times in Bill’s “Dickie Bird Club” (garage). Most of all raising their family there. Tom and Teresa will cherish the memories forever.

Bernice was an avid bird watcher as well as enjoying watching rabbits play in the moonlight.
“Grannie” as she was known to most of us, loved to watch figure skating, curling and her beloved Bombers and Jets.

Thank you to all the staff at Calvary Place Personal Care Home for the love and compassion shown to Mom.

Bernice was laid to rest on April 17, 2020 at Brookside Cemetery. Due to Covid restrictions, a private family gathering will take place.

Mom, Grannie, you left us beautiful memories. Your love is our guide. Although we cannot see you, you are always at our side.
