Obituary

Peacefully, on Saturday, May 15, 2021, Bruce passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 71 years.

Bruce will be missed and lovingly remembered, by his wife of 48 years, Joan, sons Curtis (Stephanie) and Kyle (Zana), grandchildren Emma and Jessa, as well as other family and friends.

Bruce was a dedicated firefighter with the City of Winnipeg, a job he loved and was truly thankful for. Co-workers appreciated Bruce and spoke highly of him. He enjoyed family time at the cottage.

Bruce was skilled at building and was always working on projects at home and the cottage. He enjoyed cooking and was a creative cook. He enjoyed all aspects of football, especially being involved when his sons played. Bruce loved reading. He was a man of faith and enjoyed bible study.

Bruce had a variety of interests, including crossword puzzles, travel and keeping up with the latest news. He preferred being in the background, but didn’t hesitate to show his wit and sense of humour.

Bruce loved his wife and family and was always thankful for the many blessings in his life.

In lieu, of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Firefighters Burn Fund, PO Box 45001, RO Kildonan Place Winnipeg, MB., R2C 5C7 or to a charity of one’s choice.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

I am deeply sad to learn of Bruce's passing.

It's difficult to characterize Bruce without saying that he may have been the best person I have ever known. I worked with Bruce for 5 years at a busy fire hall in South Winnipeg, where he was such a great asset to the world, professional, caring and kind.

I wish there was some way that I could bring his loved ones some comfort in their time of devastating loss.

My Uncle Bruce was a great uncle. I will remember his kindness and his laugh the most. He was always so proud of his sons and he was a great role model for his young nieces and nephews. We all looked up to him. He will not be forgotten.

I was fortunate to start with Bruce on the Fire Department in the gang of 8 some 47 years ago almost to the date. He was a quiet, kind and intelligent man who always wished the best for those around him. He was an excellent firefighter, loving husband and a very proud dad. I will miss him and remember him always with fondness as will many. My sincerest condolences to you, his wife and children and to all who knew Bruce.
Sincerely,
Reid Douglas
