Obituary for Christopher Todd Fyfe
Christopher Todd Fyfe, son of Gail Vrooman (nee McIntyre) and Gerald Fyfe, of Winnipeg, MB, passed away at home surrounded by family.
Chris was born in Winnipeg and moved to Europe in 1967, spending his formative years living in Italy, England and Switzerland where he attended the International Schools. The family moved back to Winnipeg in 1974 where Chris started building his life. He was always focused on nurturing relationships with family & friends, pursuing his personal interests and his work. Chris had many passions including archery, golfing and jewelry making. Why he had so many skateboards in recent years we will never know but he was never scared to take a chance and gained great pleasure from thrill seeking like sky diving.
Chris, an accomplished health and safety professional, held a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Winnipeg; a Biotechnology Diploma from Red River CC and the Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation. He started his career in research at the University of Manitoba and Health Sciences Centre, later moving fully into the area of health and safety at Defehr Furniture, Marmon Keystone Canada and as risk officer for St. Amant Centre from 2008-2020.
Chris was involved with the Anxiety Disorders Association of Manitoba as a client and an avid supporter of the organization. He also felt strongly about the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities feeling the need to repel down a building to raise funds for the charity in 2019. Chris also supported Canadian Blood Services as evidenced by donating as much blood and platelets as he could throughout his adult life. These are just a few examples of how he was always giving back and thinking about others.
Chris was a force to be reckoned with and one of the bravest people any of us knew. He stood strong staring fear in the face right to the end. Chris was a fine man and it was a privilege to know him. He was sensitive and caring but at the same very sociable and outgoing. He was able to leave this life in the company of people who loved him deeply.
He is survived by his mother, Gail; brother, Cameron Barker-Fyfe (Michael); beloved, Lori Stuart; his “girls”, Shayla (Gavin), Kendra and Reaghen Stuart; his aunt Eadie McIntyre, cousins John (Linda) McIntyre and Kathy (Sheldon) Drury, godparents, and close friends. He was predeceased by his step-father Irv Vrooman.
The family would like to thank everyone involved in providing care for Chris during his brief battle with cancer including the Southern Health team of Dr. Woelk, Brigitte, Marnie and Bernice; everyone at Cancer Care; and special gratitude to Lori and Cameron who provided 24/7 care to Chris in his final weeks at home.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life is planned for a later date.
