Obituary for David John Livingston

David was born on March 4,1952 at St. Boniface Hospital and passed away in the early hours of February 1st, 2022 at St. Boniface Hospital after a brief illness.

David is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Stickney, five adult children, and his siblings and their families, Bob Livingston (Linda), Jackie Dojack (Ernie), Judy Derksen (Bob), and Don Livingston (Charlotte). He will also be missed by Kathy’s adopted daughter, Darian Pruden and grandson, Leon Pruden and Kathy’s brother, Warren Swait (Lucille) and family.
David will also be missed by all the dogs at his and Kathy’s home. They’ll be wondering what happened to that guy who was always sneaking treats to them.

David attended Sisler High School and then began working for the CNR. He retired early due to illness, and then lived for almost 15 years at Beacon Hill Lodge. In his time there, his health actually significantly improved, so that he moved from requiring a wheelchair and being cognitively impaired, to walking with a cane, and regaining much of his intelligent mind. In his last couple of years at Beacon Hill Lodge, pre Covid, he was able to share his musical talents with the other residents. During his time in Long Term Care, his life was enriched considerably by his spending weekends and holidays at home with Kathy and all the animals.

For much of David’s adult life, he suffered, as did his loved ones, from the effects of his addiction to alcohol.

As a sober person, David, was a person who was generous, kind and humorous. Even in his final few days in the hospital, the hospital personnel commented on what a kind person he was.
We are all grateful that David’s final 13 months were spent at home with Kathy. Not many people leave Long Term Care in a minivan.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of David’s life will be held in the summer in Winnipeg, at a time that is convenient for all those who wish to attend.
