Obituary for David Roberts
DAVID ROBERTS
On February 22, 2023, our father, husband, papa, and grandpapa passed away at age 87 with his family by his side. Family was everything to him. He was able to live in his own home independently with his beloved wife of 68 years until just before his brief illness.
He leaves his wife Myra (nee Hupé), son David (Sandra), daughters Karen (Tom), Darlene, and Tracy (Pablo). He also leaves 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Caroline and Paul Roberts, his brother Albert, and sisters Eileen, Grace, Doreen, Geraldine, and Marge.
David grew up in Neepawa, MB and in St. Vital. He loved sports in his younger years, especially baseball and football. When raising his family, he enjoyed family outings to Miami Beach (Manitoba), Patricia Beach, and Birds Hill Park. He also cherished trips to Tall Pine Lodge with his wife. He enjoyed swimming, tennis, and in his later years walking and doing all the grocery shopping! He loved going to Costco and looking for deals. He always tried to buy local “Made in, or product of Canada!”. He enjoyed playing bridge and cribbage, watching sports and documentaries, and tending to the garden. He adored his wife’s cooking and occasional dinners from Bistro Dansk and Popeyes and his daughter Karen’s perogies! He liked music, especially George Jones, and CCR. He even went to see a CCR concert with his son when they came to Winnipeg. He enjoyed discussing politics and the news, always trying to read between the lines. He also enjoyed completing beautiful pictures on his IPad.
Dad had a variety of jobs over his lifetime but spent most of his career, and was most recently employed at, the Agriculture Canada Research Station as an office administrator. He was able to retire early and enjoyed vacations to the east and west coasts. His favorite place to be, though, was at home spending time with his family and tending to his home. He paid special attention to always making improvements and maintaining his home, inside and out.
Dad was very generous with his family and was always there to help. He always lived his life with good morals, integrity, and honesty and he taught us to do the same. He never cut corners and always did a thorough job at whatever he did.
We miss him and will always miss him deeply.
As per his wishes he did not want a funeral service, but we will be having a summer get-together in his honor. Please leave any memories you have of Dave, or condolences, below.
