Obituary for Delza Longman (Lakey)

In declining health for some time, Delza Lakey Longman died Monday, April 19, at Misericordia Place. She was in her 104th year.

Born Sept. 28, 1917, Reach Twp., Ontario Co., Ontario, Delza was the third child and second daughter of the late Thomas Hugh Lakey and Ella Lakey (Harper).

A graduate of the University of Toronto and Case Western Reserve University, Ms. Lakey settled in Winnipeg in 1944 where she taught English and Latin at United College, now the University of Winnipeg.

Delza and Alfred Duncan Longman were married at the Univeristy Womens’ Club, University of Toronto, on June 28, 1948.

Delza was predeceased by her husband, Alfred Duncan Longman; as well as her brother, Melville Lakey, of Fenlon Falls, Ontario; and her two sisters, Olga Batty, of Brooklin, Ontario; and Mildred Steer, of Delta, BC.

A private interment will take place at Waverley Gardens Cemetery, Winnipeg.

According to her expressed wishes there will be no funeral.
