Obituary for Donald John Goebel

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Don Goebel on October 1, 2020. Don passed away after a long battle of heart and lung disease. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Serena Goebel; sisters Margaret Rosenthal (Donald), Thelma Steingart and Susan McInnes (Dave); and sister-in-law Lorraine Gabel. He also leaves to mourn many nieces and nephews; long time close friends Barb and Dan, and their children Jennelle and Jaret.

Don was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Ottilia Goebel; Serena’s mother Shannon Goebel; brothers Clarence, Herbert (Dianne) and Robert (Elsie); and sisters Jean, Alice and Eunice.

Don was born in Neudorf, Saskatchewan and moved to Winnipeg in the late 60’s where he worked for Motor Coach Industries until he retired in the late 90’s. He had a great love for old time country music which he would listen for hours when he wasn’t watching his Winnipeg Jets, Toronto Blue Jays or curling.

Don was an adoring father to Serena, they had a strong and loving bond. Over the years they spent much of their time together watching baseball, curling or enjoy a lunch or supper out.

Thank you to the nursing staff at the Grace Hospital for their caring comfort they gave Dad in his final days. Special thank you to Aunty Susan and Uncle Dave; and Barb, Dan and Jennelle for taking time to visit and show him love in his final few months. He always looked forward to your visits or phone calls.

A private family Celebration of Life and Interment has taken place.
