July 2, 1926-October 9,2022
Mother, Grandmother, friend
Mom passed away at 0630 on October 9, 2022 at Golden West Centennial Lodge after a long battle with Lewy body dementia. She is survived by her daughter, Linda and Grandson Scott. Mom is predeceased by her parents, Sam and Christina Woodhead, her sister Pearl, husband Roderick McMillin and son-in-law Norm Sparrow.
Mom was an amazing cook and tried many new and different things such as her cheesey olives and a fruit cake like no other. Her and Dad married in 1947.
After Dad retired, they started travelling to various places in Europe and to the east and west coasts of our gorgeous country.
Mom loved being active and to that end she would five and 10 pin bowl in the winter as well as play badminton. Summer meant tennis and golf. Her clothes were always very fashionable. Her greatest joy in life was Scott. She was always thrilled when we needed her to sit for us and she would have her own time with him.
Mom’s journey through dementia was long and arduous and at times very difficult. The disease destroyed the Mom I knew and loved and left a shell. So many stages to go through.
I would like to thank the staff at Golden West for taking such great care of Mom for these past 10 years.
Mom’s wishes were that there not be a funeral. She will be interred at Brookside Cemetary. Cremation has taken place.
Donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society or the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
