Obituary for Edward Richard Tymkin

EDWARD RICHARD JOHN TYMKIN

EDWARD RICHARD JOHN TYMKIN born March 29, 1930 in Red Lake, Ontario passed away April 22, 2022 at St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, Manitoba after a brief struggle with cancer at the age of 92.

Edward graduated from Queen's University Faculty of Education. In his early adult years, he organized the signing of members to the mine, mill, and smelter workers union. In his union organizing days from Flin Flan Mb. to Elliot Lake Northern Ontario, he was known as and referred to as the Canadian Jimmy Hoffa. His career path in Education led him to teach science in Thunder Bay, Ont. And later serving as Principle in Sioux Lookout, Hornepayne, and Bergland, Ontario.

Edward was a colorful highly intelligent individual who was well versed in a variety of topics. In his prime Eddie was a former amateur boxer in the welterweight division. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to fish, pick wild blueberries, and take long walks. Eddie loved a good debate and he enjoyed talking to anyone who would give him a good listening ear.

Among his many interests he enjoyed baseball, hockey, and especially spending endless time at the rink or baseball diamond, cheering on his grandchildren and their team. Those that knew grandpa Eddie would remember his very firm handshakes and he took great personal delight in anyone challenging the strength of his grip. Many will miss his familiar "hoot hoot!" chant that would loudly fill an arena.

Edward was predeceased by his loving wife, Margaret Tymkin, and is survived by his 3 sons (the Three R's), Robin, Randy, and Rick and grandchildren Ericka, Shelby, Cole (parents Rick and Michelle), Zach and Aimee (parents Robin and Judy), and great grandchildren; Sebastian and Zoie (parents Zach and Sophie).

As per Edward's wish, there will be no service but the family requests any donation in Edward’s name on his behalf be directed to the Children's Wish Foundation of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
