Obituary for Eleanor Joyce Pennington

Peacefully, with family by her side, Eleanor Joyce Pennington passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at the Grace Hospice at 79 years of age.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children Doug Shearer (Janice) Patty Serre (Julien), granddaughter Ainslie Shearer, Chris McLellan, & many nieces, nephews, & cousins.
She will also be missed by the Pennington family: Roy & Luella Pennington, Janice Pennington & son Reid Pennington, Cindy Kendall and the entire extended family across Canada and England.
She was predeceased by her parents Adam & Teeni e Stieler, brother Dick, 1st husband Donald Shearer, son Scott, and husband Roy Pennington.
She leaves behind her friend of almost 70 years Rita Carne & husband John. The stories from years gone by were retold as if they happened yesterday and brought a smile and sparkle to her eyes. Guides at St. Luke’s, Bike rides through Assiniboine Park, taking the streetcar to Kelekis for some chips, and taking a ride to the border to get coffee were special moments for her growing up. Most recently the trips to Burlington for crafts and site seeing and enjoying the kids brought so much joy to her life.
Eleanor held several secretarial positions over her career eventually ending up at Oxford United Church and St. Peters Anglican Church. Her strong faith and love of music were always present through her life activities. Eleanor always had a choir practice coming up or a meeting at the church on her calendar. She was very active with her church and enjoyed all the activities and shows that she was able to participate in and loved to fill in as organist on occasion. There was always something new being learned on her piano – this was usually practiced early in the morning while her children were still in bed instead of getting ready for school.
Eleanor touched the lives of many people and spent each day making sure everyone else was going to be OK. There were many pairs of mitts knitted, phone calls made, cards mailed and many cakes, loaves or cookies baked for anyone who needed a little something special -including the special batches of cookies for the “guys at the garage who would starve without them”. The highlight of her days was to do anything and everything for her precious Ainslie.
A special Thank You to everyone at the Grace Hospice for their exceptional care and comfort for Eleanor and her family.
A graveside celebration will be held at Thompson in the Park, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. on Thursday Aug 6 at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to National Service Dogs, Cambridge, Ontario
