Obituary for Gladys Ingibjorg Yaeger

Gladys Ingibjorg Yaeger (nee Einarson) passed peacefully into eternity on March 21, 2021 at the age of 88.

Mom, middle daughter of Albert and Sadie Einarson, was born during a stormy day December 4, 1932 on the family farm, close to Lundar, Manitoba. Despite a serious heart condition, her bravery and strong faith shone through as she defied many medical odds throughout her life. At the age of 16, Gladys left the farm to live with her sister Lilea (Walter) and attend Success Commercial College in Winnipeg. She worked as a secretary until 1951 when she started bookkeeping at Morgan Nicholson. There she met the love of her life, Frederick Walter Yaeger.

Mom and Dad were married on April 25, 1954. During their 66 years of marriage they were blessed with 3 children: Susan, Frederick (Ingrid) and William (Carmen).

Mom dedicated her life to family and church. She celebrated each new addition to the family. During her final days, she was most concerned that she would finish knitting sweaters for the little ones. If you are lucky enough to have one of her Icelandic sweaters, you know there is love in each stitch.
Mom loved music. She made sure we all were able to learn to play a musical instrument and encouraged us to sing at any occasion. Mom enjoyed singing in the church choir for many years. Our home was always full with the sounds of music, laughter and life.

Mom’s creative loving spirit lives on in her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Christina (Matthew, Jordyn and Maximus), Alexandria (Ryan, Aria, Lucia and Axel), Peter (Shay), Erica, Nathaniel, Elyssia, Tanya, Keith (Madison) and Natalie. Mom’s sister Alice (Karel, Jennifer and Andrew) held a special place in her life. We are especially grateful for her support. Mom was committed to keeping the extended family connected. Too many to name but all closely tied in love.

Mom held an unwavering faith in God and was an active member of the New Apostolic Church. She made it her life’s mission to improve the lives of others by welcoming literally hundreds of people into their home. Many benefited from her generosity and compassion. When she was not filling her home with people, Mom could be found writing poems, plays and stories. Mom loved to visit family and friends across the country and across borders. In 2014 she published her book “I Remember A Blessed Life” capturing special moments.

Thank you to all who cared for Mom at the St. Boniface Hospital, Misericordia Health Centre, Dakota House and Actionmarguerite Saint-Boniface.

There will be a Celebration of Life scheduled when Covid restrictions allow.

Our family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mom be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or the New Apostolic Church Canada (on line at ) or any other charity of your choice.
