Obituary for Glen Arthur Shaw

Glen Arthur Shaw
1934- 2022

With his family by his side, Glen passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital, on October 13, 2022 at the age of 88. He was listening to a jive tune, so you could say, he danced his way to heaven. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, Alice of 64 years. His four D's, Diane (Lawrence), Doug (Lesa), Darlene (Don) and Debbie (Jim). His grandchildren Graeme (Morgana), Jennifer (Kyle), Derek (Colin), Jessica (Craig), Karina ( Garett), Kevin and Isabelle. Great grandchildren, Owen, Gordy, Harrison, Charlotte, Oliver, and Tavian, who gave him much joy.

Also mourning his loss, his sister Eileen (Mel), brother Raymond (Dianne), in-laws Bill, Shirley, and Irene. He was predeceased by his parents, Effie and Alfred, Alice's parents Molly and Ed, brother Alan and sister-in-law Mabel and brother-in-law Klaus.

Glen was born June 14, 1934, in his grandmother's house. Raised in Morris, Glen moved to Winnipeg to find work, which eventually led him to a 40-year career at Canada Safeway Limited. Glen served in the Naval reserve for 10 years as a young man and shared many stories of those sailor days.

He met and married Alice in 1958 and shortly after, along came their 4 D's.

Over the years, Glen was a member of the Rotary club, Thompson Game and Fish, SEA, Breezy Bend golf course and the Wharton Wildcats. He was a hunter, fisherman, cribbage player, slide-shower, golfer, coffee lover, sports fan and music lover. It was pure joy watching him and Alice dance.

He was always the host and master coordinator of family parties around the pool, work events, golf and card tournaments and fish fries. Glen and Alice were avid travellers and made lifelong friends at their snowbird home Island House, Corpus Christi Texas. He had a love of life, wife, family and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Harvey Lee.

A celebration of Glen's life will take place on Tuesday, October 25, at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue at 1:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, some of Glen's favourite charities, Salvation Army, Siloam Mission, Canadian Cancer Society and the Winnipeg Humane Society
