Obituary for Grace Nazar (Huff)
After a 15 month battle with pancreatic cancer Grace passed away on April 15th, 2020 at home surrounded by her husband Eric and two sons Jim and Mark. In 2002 her health was damaged by the auto immune disease Rheumatoid Arthritis. She fought both diseases with great determination. She tried to survive the devastation, the trauma, and the treatment of cancer.
The following was written by Grace:
I am survived by the love of my life my husband Eric of almost 52 years, and my two sons Jim (Nanette) and Mark (Cynthia), my 5 grandchildren, my pride and joy, my munchkins, my rewards, Katherine, Zachary, Nicholas, Sophia and Danica, and my brother Ed and predeceased by my parents Reinhold and Ida Huff (Gluck) and two sisters Geraldine and Lorraine.
On June 15, 1968 Eric and I were married and that is when I started to live, we shared life together. He was the love of my life. While we were courting our favourite restaurant was Hy's and we would go there for dinners every couple of months and we still go to Hy's but not as often. I have lots of great memories. We were blessed with 2 sons Jim and Mark. Eric always said that I was truly blessed because both boys "really loved their Mom" just as I deeply loved them. Family was my priority as I tried to provide unconditional love and a safe home. Eric and I have always tried to "be there". Our family could be a challenge to one another, as human beings are prone to be, but never unloved or abandoned.
I loved cottage country, I loved our time at the lake with our family and friends. Eric and I owned a cottage for over 20 years on Lake Manitoba. Eric, the boys and myself had lots of fun and have lots of fond memories of our summers at the lake.
I was a stay at home Mom for 12 years before returning to work part time, on contracts and in full time positions until I retired in January 2001.
Over the years I had many interests and likes which included playing cards, music and sports. At one time I curled 3 times a week. I also liked to sample wine - red or white - didn't matter. Gardening also took up lots of my time. I liked to get my nose close to the ground and my hands dirty. Spring has always been my most liked season.
Eric and I enjoyed going to concerts and to movies. To us a perfect evening was having a big bag of popcorn and a coke at the cinema. Eric and I were subscribers to the Manitoba Opera for over 10 years. I belonged to Delta Master, Jazzy Gems, the last Thursday of the month book club and going out for lunch with my church ladies. My faith was important to me. I was a member of the Lutheran Church all my life.
During our marriage but mostly in our retirement years Eric and I had some wonderful years of travel to many destinations such as to Australia, New Zealand, Texas, Palm Springs, across Canada, Alaska, Florida (Disney), Majorca, Portugal, Spain, Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Bermuda, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji, Samoa, American Samoa, Honolulu, Maui, Kona, Hilo, Hong Kong, Gibraltar, Morocco, Taiwan, China, Japan, Vietnam and Tasmania.
