Obituary for Halldor John Johnson

Halldor John Johnson of Vogar, MB passed away unexpectedly on May 9, 2021, at the age of 80 years.

He was the much-loved husband of Marianne (Senchuk); father of Finn (Tara) Johnson and Erika (Lincoln) Koss; and Afi to Pauline, Kieran, Veronica, Adam, and Karis. He is survived by brothers Frank (Sylvia) Johnson, Wayne (Jan) Johnson, sister Shirley (Warren) Taylor as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents John S. and Gudrun (Halldorson) Johnson, sister Jonina (Siggi) Emilson and niece Leanne Johnson.

Halldor was an avid reader of history, especially of his family’s Icelandic heritage. As a young man he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping and in later years preferred to use a camera rather than a gun. He graduated with a Diploma of Agriculture and took over the family cattle farm in 1972. Husey Lake Ranch is now a Century Farm as his Afi homesteaded there in 1908.

He was a patient, kind and thoughtful man who was a hard worker and had a great sense of humour. He retired from farming in 1999 but kept active by assisting his nephew Mark with his cattle operation when needed. Halldor’s faith in Jesus as his saviour gives us hope that we will see him again in heaven.

“I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies”. - John 11:25

“Minning hans er ljuf og sönn.”
His memory is gentle and true.
