Obituary for Hildegard Luise Gutsche

HILDEGARD GUTSCHE
1932 - 2022

Hildegard passed away peacefully at Oakview Place, where she lived for the past six years. She was predeceased by her husband, Willi (2009), and both “her boys", Gerald (2017) and Willi Jr (1985). She is survived by her brothers, Karl Hienz Koch (wife Gertrude) and Werner Koch, and their families. She is also survived by her nephew, Klaus-Dieter Gutsche, and his family. Hildegard is also survived by other extended family and friends in Germany and Winnipeg.

Although Werner, Karl Hienz, Gertrude, and her nieces and nephews were far away, Hildegard held them close and enjoyed their calls, letters, and parcels. She often told stories of growing up with her brothers in Germany, and of her visits with her family in Germany and Winnipeg. Family and friends were important to Hildegard.

Hildegard and Willi were married in Germany in 1951, immigrated to Winnipeg a couple of years later, and raised their two sons in their home on Vimy Road. Hildegard was a stay-at-home mom to Gerald and Willi, both of whom she was very proud. She was actively involved with the Heritage Community Club where her late husband worked and coached. In later years Hildegard and Willi successfully operated a small business, Hilmar Venture, from which they retired in 1995.

Hildegard and Willi enjoyed traveling, to Germany to visit family, to Cuba and Hawaii, and their weekend trips to the spa in Moose Jaw. Mrs. Gutsche was a great cook, and many will remember her rouladin, potato salad, and many delicious cakes. She was an avid bingo player and kept busy knitting and crocheting. Many people continue to cover up with her cozy, handmade afghans or sport her warm winter toques.

A graveside service will be held at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue, on June 1, 2022, at 11:30. If you plan to attend please meet in the office parking lot at 11:15 and we will proceed as a group to the graveside. For those who are unable to attend, the service will be live-streamed at:
