Obituary for Ignacio Pagaduan Falgui

Ignacio P. Falgui
1939 -2022

Ignacio P. Falgui, 83, of Winnipeg Manitoba, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 22, 2022, with family by his side.

The eldest of 5 children, Ignacio was born to parents Pedro Falgui Sr and Lucia P. Falgui on April 15, 1939, in Candon, Ilocos Sur, Philippines. Ignacio proudly received his Police Certificate for the Manila Police Department and eventually his Automotive Technician certificate in Manila, Philippines, where his real passion for fixing and building cars began.

Ignacio is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lida D. Falgui, his daughters Lucy Bergmann, Ida Falgui (Trevor Mierke), Mildred Cardinal (Robert Cardinal), Claire Falgui (Carlos Vela) and Ingrid Falgui (Francis Sacurom), his grandchildren; Nicholas Bergmann, Hailey and Benjamin F. Mierke, Nathan and Jacob Cardinal, and Charlotte Sacurom, his sisters; Juanita Schmeida, Merciditas Nielson, and Rosario Falgui.

Ignacio was predeceased by his father, Pedro Falgui Sr. His mother, Lucia P. Falgui. His brother, Pedro Falgui Jr. As well as his sons, Joel, and Jonathan Falgui.

Ignacio (Iggy) was a stoic and observant man. While his demeanour was somewhat serious, his children and grandchildren knew the softer and more charismatic side of him, as well as his grand sense of humour; this side he reserved for his family.

With humble beginnings, Dad had always been a hard working, dedicated husband, father, and brother as well as a loyal friend to so many. Arriving in Canada on June 12, 1977, he and Mom quickly fit into life as working Canadians. They worked hard to buy a home for their family of 7. He built a van to fit his entire family so they could travel whenever they wanted to. There was no place too near or far. In 1991 he moved mom and the two youngest children to Vancouver, BC, another chapter where he’d spend 16 years working and exploring the West Coast. He eventually retired in 2004 and moved back to Winnipeg to be closer to his grandchildren. Dad loved road trips, fishing, cycling, being outdoors and just travelling. He inflicted this passion on to his children; a legacy that has already carried through to his grandchildren. He encouraged lives filled with adventures, love, and laughter and “family first”.

He and mom overcame many challenges throughout their lives. To any doubters he would respond with a firm expression, which will be remembered vividly “bullsh#%t!”
We love you dad.
Sincere thanks to Dr. E. L. Chan, WRHA home care workers, and the nurses & doctors from the Grace Hospital.
