On Tuesday May 4, 2021, Isabel MacDonald (Halliday) passed away at the age of 91.
Mom was born at the family farm in 1929 to Thomas and Blanche Halliday. She was raised in the Tonkin area and attended Armstrong School and Yorkton Collegiate.
At the young age of 17 she moved to Winnipeg to seek employment. It is here Isabel met her future husband, John MacDonald. They married in 1951 and settled in Charleswood in 1960, where they raised their 5 children.
Mom had a warm and wonderful personality making many close friends. She was active in the PTA, community club, a member of the Charleswood United Church and the Charleswood Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Mom was a wonderful homemaker who excelled at cooking and baking. She took pleasure in watching her children and grandchildren’s many activities. Mom enjoyed bowling, golfing, reading, crossword puzzles, travelling, knitting, crocheting and also took up oil painting.
In 2005, she moved to the Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence and later moved to the Rosewood. When she required more care, she moved into Golden Links Nursing Home and subsequently to the Simkin Centre for her final years. We are grateful for the care Isabel received at each of the residences.
Mom was predeceased by her husband John, parents Thomas and Blanche Halliday, daughter Michelle Yankoski, granddaughter Jennifer, brothers Bob, Frank, Jim (Anne). Also predeceased by brothers/sisters-in-laws John Johnson, Margerie (Pete) Loewen, and Katie Belle (Charlie) McKnight.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children Bonnie (Stan) Geeroms, Ian (Eileen), Janice, Roderick (Bonnie), sister Myrtle Johnson, sisters-in-law Peggy and Marianne Halliday. She will also be remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
We thank the staff at the Simkin Centre for the love and compassion shown Isabel in her last years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Simkin Centre or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
