Obituary for James Jarvie Wright Barratt

James Jarvie Wright Barratt
Nov 18th, 1934 – Apr 25th, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jim Barratt on April 25th, 2022.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Nona, his parents, sister and brother. He is survived by his brother George. He will be greatly missed by many close friends and his chosen families; the Dawes, the Elliots and the Kellys.

Jim was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He had many interests and talents, playing in goal for a semi-professional football team and in a band that travelled to Holland and Switzerland. He worked in the transformer industry as an Electrical Apprentice joining Bruce Peebles Electric. After completing his service in the RAF Regiment Signal Corps in Jordan, Cypress and Iraq, he rejoined the company becoming their youngest General Foreman.

In 1967 Jim settled in Winnipeg where he was employed by Federal Pioneer Electric for 26 years and later became head of Human Resources at Dominion Tanners until his retirement.

Jim married Nona Soules in 1972. They were deeply devoted and committed to each other through 44 years of marriage. They had so many friends and were always helping others in their times of need. They were active volunteers and supported many charities and causes which Jim continued upon her passing.

In his later years he enjoyed bowling, walking, reading and watching his beloved sports teams. He travelled to visit loved ones in Brandon and Ontario and took one last trip overseas to Tenerife and Scotland in 2019.

Jim’s dedication to the Masonic Order was an important part of his life. He served as a Mason in both Scotland and Canada for over 60 years. He held several offices in The Craft Lodge, Royal Arch Masons, and Cryptic Rite. He was most proud of serving as Grand First Principal for the Royal Arch Masons in 1995. Based out of Starbuck Lodge #160, Jim enjoyed much support and friendship from his Masonic Brothers.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday May 4th 2022 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre 3030 Notre Dame Avenue Wpg, Mb.
