Obituary for James Steven Deschamp

James Steven (Jimmy, Jimbob) Deschamp, son of the late Steven Deschamp and Beatrice (Lake) Deschamp was born May 25th 1950, in White River, Ontario.

He married Katherine Susan (Ammeter) Deschamps on October 11th 1997 at the Windsor Hotel in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Katherine proceeded him in death on September 7th 2017.

James started work at the age of 9 working for a railroad company for many years in Heron Bay North until he moved to Winnipeg, Mb. He worked many odd jobs till he found his workplace home at the South Osborne Legion branch #252 in 2008 where he became a part of the Fort Rouge community.

He was loved by many, and his positive spirit will forever remain in the lives of all who knew him. He passed away in the comfort of his home June 2nd, 2020 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

James truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends, attending the Blue Bomber games, sitting in his porch doing crossword puzzles, cooking meals and spending time with family and loved ones. He always had the ability to make anyone smile, even through hard times. He was the type of man who would lend a hand to anyone in need and would seldom ask for help in return.

James took great pride in the family he created and if given the chance would list each one of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and why he held them all near and dear to his heart.

The legion truly became his second home, he made friends that became family and it did not matter who you were, as long as you removed your hat he would greet you with an ear to ear smile that made even strangers feel welcomed. If he wasn’t at home he was then sitting at the lounge watching his sports or chatting up the new employees. He would even make bigger meals just to bring a plate for the staff working that night.

James enriched our lives in so many different ways, and will be missed dearly.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Clement Deschamp, sister, Charlotte Deschamp, brother, William Deschamp, brother, Winston Deschamp, brother, George Deschamp, and granddaughter, Keairra Jewett.
