Obituary for Joseph Paul Pelletier

Joseph Paul Pelletier
April 22, 1938 – April 25, 2023

Joseph Paul was born at home in St. Madeleine, MB and was the second oldest of 11 children born to Louis and Pauline Pelletier.
School was not an option. His father’s work with the farmers kept him away from the family and pop (being the eldest male) was tasked to pick up chores in and around the home. About the tender age of 13 he would secure his own work with the farmers earning him a dollar a day! He would later work on the rail road, with the City of Winnipeg and for seven years, on the dam in Gillam finally settling in Winnipeg where he worked in construction for Capitol Concrete Inc.
1972 was a pivotal year for pop. It was during this year he would meet the woman who would become his love and lifelong companion. Little did he know at the time that she had seven children? They would become his kids in every sense of the word. He became the best dad, grandpa, great grandpa and most of all, the greatest husband. His love was endless and had no boundaries!
His life with mom revolved around the kids, sports and the homestead on Ingersoll. It was always a buzz with activity and the meeting place for family and friends. Until recently you could find them both on the front deck with their beloved dogs, greeting everyone that passed by. Pop was lovingly known as the neighborhood watch.
Due to health circumstances, they had to leave the family home and settle into apartment living. It was during this transition that pop’s devotion for mom shone through! Her every need was met until her passing. And he did it all with an amputation!
Pop was lonely but looked forward to his Friday night Michif sessions. A proud Metis! He was so happy to reconnect and share and communicate in his language. Thank you Chantale for making it possible.
Unfortunately Pops ailing health would finally get the best of him and he would leave us to rejoin his beloved Frances on April 25th, three days after celebrating his 85th birthday.
Pop was also predeceased by his son Brian Glesby, granddaughter Amanda Glesby, great grandson Vance, his parents Louis and Pauline, sisters Rose Ledoux and Janet Pelletier, brothers Frank and Alex, mother-in-law Helen McKenny and brothers-in-law Russell and Robert (Bob).
He leaves behind his siblings Mary, Harvey (Verna), George (Elaine), Beatrice, Henry and Kenny. His children Edgar Sinclair (Judy), Trudy Glesby, Wayne Glesby (Teresa), Russell Glesby (Tina), Patti Glesby (Frank), Raymond Glesby (Karen) and Doris Gregory.
He also leaves behind 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 3 great, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Our family would like to thank Dr. Sheila Domke for her years of care and compassion. He looked forward to his visits.

Thank you to team of home care nurses and providers at Access Winnipeg West. How lucky we are to have an incredible group of professionals look after our Pop. A special thank you to Carla Dahl. My pop adored you! He was your biggest fan!

Thank you to the staff on 4 South at the Grace Hospital.

Cremation has taken place and a gravesite Celebration of Life will take place at 10 am in Ste. Madeleine on July 15th during Metis Days.

A heart of gold stopped beating,
Hard working hands went to rest,
God took you home to prove to us,
That he only takes the best.
Heartaches in this world are many,
But losing you was worse than any,
It will be lonely here without you,
We will miss you more each day,
For life will not be the same for us,
Since you’ve been called away.
We will always remember the way you looked,
The way you walked and smiled,
All the things you did for us,
Will be with us all the while.
You always did your best,
Your heart was true and tender,
You lived your life for those you loved,
And those you loved will remember.
