Obituary

Obituary for Kam Sheng Wong

KAM SHENG WONG
黃錦尚

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kam Sheng Wong of Winnipeg at the age of 95 years. She passed away peacefully at St. Boniface General Hospital on January 24, 2021 with family at her side.

Kam was born in Taishan, Canton Province, China, and immigrated to Canada in the late 1960s. She is survived by her children Connie, Angie, Ted, Sandra, Tina, Howie (Paula), and her brother Kam Bu and his family. She was predeceased by her husband Gin in 2010.

Kam was a gifted seamstress and found endless opportunities to apply her skills both in China and here in Winnipeg. Besides being able to custom tailor her wardrobe, she also decorated the family home with custom sewn window covers and bedding. Her talent also resided as half of the home chef team. The many delicious regional recipes that Kam could readily prepare kept her family fed, full, and asking for more.

Professionally, Kam was a businessperson partnered with her husband operating a corner store in Chinatown in the 1970s before the business was eventually sold. Kam worked as a seamstress manufacturing coats in the 1980s.

Throughout her life in Canada she enjoyed watching Chinese operas, socializing with friends, and spending time with family. Our mom also enjoyed travelling, road trips, and going to the casino for entertainment.

She loved to see her grandchildren (Alnie (Daniel), Visa (Rod), Sandra (Greg), Amela, Arthur (Mindy), Leonard (Amy), Allan, Mitchell (Ada), and Taya) and great grandchildren (Riley, Brandon, Aeidyn, Liam, Tianna, Austin, Cadence, Bradlee, Jaden, Layla, Adelyn, Mya, Matthew, and Wesley). Being able to help watch her grandchildren certainly brought joy to her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, grandma, great grandma, and a good friend to the many people she met through work.

A thank you goes out to the staff in the ER and wards 6AS and 5B at the hospital for their care.

A private service will be held at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre with Interment at Brookside Cemetery.

Condolences may be sent to http://www.neilbardalinc.com/. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. A celebration of life dinner will be held with family and friends at a future date once it is safer to do so.

Rest in peace, we love you Mom.
