Laurens (Laurie) Story
July 1949- December 2023

Peacefully on December 20, 2023 Laurie or Uncle Joe as fondly known by many, passed away with Linda, his wife of 53 years by his side.

Laurie’s greatest love was his family. He spent many hours with his nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews as a spectator at their sporting events and school concerts, on their day trips to Grand Beach and the zoo or on their weekend getaways to Moose Lake. He especially loved our family gatherings. The 7:00 a.m. Christmas mornings to watch the kids open presents, the large Christmas and Boxing Day dinners, birthday parties, Christmas Eve open house at their home and especially the annual skating party at the Assiniboine Park Duck Pond. He also treasured all the time spent at their cabin at Grand Beach. As the family photographer he never went anywhere without his camera and many of these special memories were captured by Uncle Joe.

He was an avid sports fan and loved the competition. His favourite teams were the Winnipeg Jets and the Toronto Blue Jays, but he enjoyed pretty much every sport.

Laurie loved nature and was extremely knowledgeable about wildlife. He loved to share his knowledge with all of us. Another one of his passions was travelling especially when it was with family. Many special memories were made during these trips that we will all cherish.

I’d like to thank my family and our friends Shiela, Marty and Barry for their continued support and regular visits with Joe. I would also like to express my gratitude to the staff at Park West Manor - 2 South for their compassion and care over the past year.
