Obituary for Lim Dip "Joe" Wong
April 30, 1946 – March 29, 2023
Lim Dip (Joe) Wong passed away at age 76 at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, MB, surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mei-Yin Wong, née Kwan; his children, Verna (Dana), Jady (Dastin), and Eric (Katie); and his grandchildren, Alex (Noelle), Ezara, Kyler, and Jace.
Born in Guangdong province of China, Lim Dip moved to Canada as a young child to live with his grandfather Wo Soon (Tsui Lau). He lived in Flin Flon, MB, and eventually settled in Winnipeg.
His memory will be cherished by his brother, Lim Jum (Late Lai Fong), and their children; his aunts, Lily Wong Guenther (Gord) and Sui Yip Mah (Late Yun Sen); and his cousins Wilma (Lewis), Wanda (Raymond), Bobby (Pauline), Larry, Pam (Mark), Wendy, Leslie (Melvin), Linda, Nancy (Curtis), Norton (Margie), and Peter; brothers-in-law, Paul (Judy), Stanley (Irene), and Michael (Wai); sister-in-law, Betty (Wing Lee) and their children.
Lim Dip is predeceased by his father, Jun Yu (Late Lai Fong Ng); mother, Fung Dang Mah; and brother, Lim Shek (Miu Haa Mah); grandparents, Wo Soon (Late Tsui Lau); and uncles, Wo Wing (Late Gim Hoi Mah), Jin Wah (Lai King) and Jimmy (Late Ping); cousin John; and brothers-in-law, Jimmy and Cheung Sui.
Lim Dip graduated from Tec-Voc High School and trained as an electrician at Red River College. Creative, pragmatic, and hardworking, he was self-employed at J. Wong's Electric and made lifelong friends with various contractors and business owners across the city.
An avid camper and fisherman, he spent countless summers at the lake, boating by day and sitting at the campfire with friends and family by night. He also enjoyed classic horror films, making Chinese cuisine, and preparing homemade wine.

A funeral service will be held at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg, MB, on April 13, 2023, at 10:00 AM.
