Obituary for Linda Elizabeth Vipond

It is with profound sadness the family of Linda Elizabeth Vipond announces her passing on January 13, 2021. “Lindy” was born on September 5, 1945, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the eldest of Lenard and Cicely Vipond’s five children. Upon graduation from Tech Voc High School, she began working for the Canadian Forces, where she stayed until retiring in 2002.

Lindy was a kind and generous person. She was never too busy for those she loved and always eager to know how everyone was doing. She thoroughly enjoyed get-togethers with her family and friends, rarely missing a birthday, holiday gathering or a chance to go for “breaky”.

Lindy had a deep affection for her sisters, and a special love for her brother, Bob, who was born with Down Syndrome. Growing up, she often took her younger siblings on outings to the beach or drive-in theatre or for a bite to eat at The Paddlewheel Restaurant. In later years, “The Sisters” were often found at Tim Horton’s grabbing a cup of coffee or Canad Inns for their monthly pension lunches. She dedicated much of her time to looking after her brother until his passing in 2019.

Her home was a safe haven for her nieces and nephews, whom she adored. She welcomed each of them without hesitation or judgment. Whether it was lending her car, opening up a spare room or hosting a movie night, her generosity knew no end. She loved them as if they were her own.

Lindy had an active social life and enjoyed getting “gussied up” for special occasions. She had a soft spot for purses, wallets, and shoes; and was rarely seen without a pair of earrings or her signature sapphire ring. She had incredible knitting, crocheting, needlepoint and cross-stitch skills; from sweaters to blankets, her handmade items were a special gift. Lindy loved a good cup of tea, getting lost in a book and chatting on the phone. Life will not be the same without her.

Lindy is mourned by her sisters: Barb Bailey, Sheila Franczyk (Chris) and Kathy Bernas (Mike); nieces: Laurie (Pratik), Lisa (Clint), Leah (Dietrich), Kelly (Norm), Amanda (Matt), Michelle (Roberto) and Melissa; nephews: Chris, Craig (Cara) and Eric (Charmaine); numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; cousins Jim, Paul and Patricia; and Aunt Vivian. She will be deeply missed by her close friends Arlene, Wendy (Jamie and Kelly), Bev and Mary Lou.

Lindy, the world changes from year to year, our lives from day to day, but the love and memories we have of you will never fade away. In life, we loved you dearly; in death, we love you still. In our hearts, you hold a special place that no one will ever fill.
