Quietly on May 10th, 2022 Maria Da Ponte in the company of her husband Paul and daughter Alycia, passed away at Foothills Hospital, Calgary Alberta.
Maria was born on the Portuguese island of Sao Miguel, Azores and lived her life in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
She rose to the top of a major property management company, leaving there in 2021. Marias competitive spirit always surfaced when it came to her passion, running. She trained obsessively often running the equivalent of a half marathon, while training for upcoming full marathons, sometimes in the middle of winter. Maria also enjoyed gardening, cooking and was an avid reader. She was fortunate to visit some amazing countries, her home of Portugal being her favorite. Of Maria’s many accomplishments in life, she was most proud of her daughter Alycia.
Maria passed away in Calgary after a hard-fought battle with cancer. She managed to protect her family, sheltering them from the incredible pain and fears she faced. She was a fierce warrior, seldom complaining or accepting pity. An inspiration to anyone who knew her.
Maria leaves behind her daughter Alycia, husband Paul, mother Rosa (Manual), brother Fernando, sister-in-law Julie, niece Sophia, uncle Joe and many friends.

A private family memorial service will take place at a later time.
