Obituary for Marie Turner (Lovallo)

It is with profound sadness the family of Marie announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt on January 8, 2021 at St. Boniface Hospital.

Marie leaves to cherish her memory daughter Dawn Turner (Don Thomson); daughter in law Shawna (Boen) Turner; grandson Devyn and granddaughter Lindsay; sister Doreen (Milt) Brown; brothers Sam (Gladys) Lovallo and Rick (Vini) Lovallo; in laws Mildred Turner (John LePage) and William Turner; as well as her loving nieces and nephews Craig (Jennine) Brown, Cindy LoPresti, Monique (Brian) Light; Dana Lovallo (Dave Freedman) and their families; cousins, Bob’s family, and close friends who were always there.

She was predeceased by the love of her life her husband Robert (Bob) J. Turner, son Darren Turner, brother Vince and sister-in-law Gail Lovallo, parents Sam and Mary Lovallo; in-laws Lindsay and Helen (Faraci) Turner, and sister-in-law Helen Turner.

Mom’s greatest joy was her family. Mom would say “if you have the love of your family, you have everything”, and this is where her world began and ended. When Darren passed away in 2018, her heart was broken, and a large part of Mom died with him.

Mom’s was a fiercely protective Mother and Grandmother. While she was proud of her children, her grandchildren were her everything-her purpose. Lindsay’s natural talent in the arts for writing, drawing, and singing made Mom immensely proud. In recent years Mom enjoyed Lindsay’s culinary exploits and looked forward to her surprise desserts at Sunday dinners. She also was the most avid hockey and football fan for a person who knew nothing about sports. When Devyn was on the ice or field, Mom would often be heard yelling just do it or that is my grandson! If a goal or TD was scored, she ensured everyone heard her praise and then turned and asked those around her -that was good-right? They just smiled and nodded but Darren would look down and shake his head.

Mom worked in Real Estate starting with National Trust, with her brother Vince (Gail) and retired 35 years later from Maximum in 2007. She loved to bake, cook, read, paint, garden, watch TV, and be with her family. Mom loved dogs and her dogs, Teaghan and Shaye were her current daily companions. Mom had a heck of a sense of humor, thought she could sing, and had a very inventive creative mind, she could invent things that had been on the market for years and then complain that they stole her idea.

Mom was never on time for anything or did things the easy way. She would joke and sing to her family-everyone loved her birthday song renditions with ear plugs at the ready or her Pagliacci. How do you solve a problem like Maria? It was something we could never figure out. Dad said Marie made life interesting, you never know what trouble she will innocently get into next.

Mom’s passing will leave a large void in our lives. Her love was complete, and our lives will be forever changed. We are grateful to the staff of St. Boniface Hospital 6A West Tertiary COVID Ward for the care and compassion for Mom and all of us.

When the evening shadows fall, and the lovely day is through, then with longing we recall, the years we spent with you. Nothing can ever replace the warmth of your tender embrace Oh, Mamma, until the day that we’re together once more, we’ll live in these memories. Sogni d'oro e Dio benedica.

A virtual memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 @ 11:00 am. To view the service please go to and view under Marie’s obituary.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba.

My heart is filled with sadness on the passing of my dearest cousin and "big sister". But now I know she is with the other angels, her beloved Bob, Darren, her brother Vince, her mother Mary and father Sam - my mothers older brother - and my Mom her beloved Aunty Virginia "Tina". I'll remember your warm smile, your sense of humor, the mischievous twinkle in your eye but most of all, your love. Ciao Bella - till we meet again.
"do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn's rain. When you waken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush, of quiet birds in circle flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. I'll remember you always.
