Obituary for Marilyn Louise de von Flindt

DE VON FLINDT, MARILYN (NELSON)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn de von Flindt, on Friday, December 2, 2022 at the age of 87 years old. Marilyn was born in Galesburg, Illinois and grew up on a farm with her parents Erma and Charles. Marilyn was predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob) and her daughter Kristin.

She met her future husband Bob in 1959 while attending Arizona State University, and after a lengthy two-month courtship they married in Phoenix, Arizona. Marilyn and Bob moved with their children Kristin and Michele to New Jersey, Kansas, and Texas before eventually settling in Winnipeg in 1970, where they celebrated a fun-filled life and a loving marriage.

Marilyn went back to university, in 1985 receiving her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Winnipeg, starting work as editor for the Association of Manitoba Museums publications. She was a deeply respected quilter and avid gardener – flowers were her joy, particularly daisies, the flowers at her beloved lake home in Matlock, and the rose bush her husband planted for her many years ago. She was a prolific supporter of the Winnipeg Art Gallery and the Manitoba Museum, and in 2016 retired from the Western Canada Aviation Museum board as recording secretary for many years.

Marilyn enjoyed great friendships over the years, with her Sorority, Alpha Delta Pi, at the Rady J.C.C. Fitness center, and University Women’s Club of Winnipeg. In recent years travelling with friends to Victoria, B.C. and Iceland. But her special joys were her daughters Kris and Michele, her grandchildren Megan, Sarah, and Dave, Megan’s father Kelly, Michele’s partner Tim, and close family friend Darcy.

The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the staff at Grace Hospital for their care and support at this difficult time, as well as the staff at Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Homecare.

A private celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held at home.
