Obituary for Mario Nasuti

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mario Nasuti, on Saturday, November 18th, 2023.

Born on May 25th, 1950, in Mozzagrogna, Italy, to Assunta and Paolo Nasuti, Mario - affectionately known as Uncle Memo - immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada, at the age of 7 with his brothers Armando and Alberto. Later, they were joined by the birth of their little sister Anna.

Mario was a Renaissance man of many talents, with music, cooking, and photography being his greatest passions. His sense of style and his prized hair were well-known; and you'd be in trouble if you touched either his records or his flowing locks. Mario’s life was a tapestry of passion and creativity.

He met the love of his life, Debra, on a trip to Hawaii in 77, and they embarked on a lifelong journey together. Debby was Mario’s muse, inspiring much of his photography and poetry. They built a home, welcomed a dog, and in 1987, were blessed with their daughter Gina, Mario's pride, and joy.

Mario's devotion to his family was unparalleled, his home always a hub of warmth and celebration. He loved hosting a party. Pulling up to the house, you'd be greeted by the sound of music and the aroma of lasagna baking. Mario always welcomed guests with a drink in hand. His definition of family extended beyond blood relations, making many feel at home in the Nasuti household.

Mario leaves behind his brother Armando (June), sisters Anna (Randy) and Diana, nephews Paul, Albert, Robert, Brendan, Caleb, and Noah, nieces Kimberly, Kelly, Tammy, Alexandra, Sarina, and Adrianna, and lifelong friends Paul, Phil, Larry, and Don.

What Mario cherished most were his girls – his beloved wife Debby, daughter Gina, and dog Marley. He was thrilled to welcome his son-in-law Sean into the family - finally a tall friend who shared a love of Robbie Robertson's music and good Italian wine.

Mario took his final walk on November 18th, 2023, after a long and tireless battle. That morning he woke up to his wife and basked in the afternoon sun with his brothers, sisters, daughter, and son-in-law.

We imagine Mario is now starting a new party somewhere, joined by his parents Assunta and Paolo, in-laws Josie and George, brothers Alberto and Ed, friend Mario Di Nella and his beloved dogs, Nera, Brandy, and Terra.

A service will be held at Holy Rosary Parish on November 30th, 2023, with Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano. Condolences start at 10am, service at 11am, followed by a reception.

For those far and wide, live streaming of Mario’s service will begin at 11am
