Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Gramma and Big Gee on Apr 21, 2021 at Riverview Health Centre. She will be lovingly remembered by Andrew Wilson and surely missed by her dog Dory. She was predeceased by her dad, mom, sister Pat, and her son Ben.

Remaining to forever cherish her memory are her brothers Jim (Carol) & Ron (Diane), her daughters Karen (Mike), Sue (Dave), 8 grandchildren (spouses) and 2 great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mom was born on Apr 28, 1945 and resided in Winnipeg all of her life. She dropped out of high school, but later, in her thirties she went back and completed her grade 12 diploma. Mom and her daughter, Sue graduated high school together. It was a very proud moment for mom, as well as her children!
After graduation mom began her career with the Department of National Defense, where she worked until retirement at age 65. She loved her time there and made many friends.

As a youngster, mom spent her summers at Grand Beach, where the whole family would travel by train, complete with steamer trunk, for two weeks of summer time fun. Marlene loved her time at the beach, renting cabins during the summer months until fulfilling her longtime dream of owning her own cottage.
Moms cottage was a gathering place for everyone. Whether it was at her condo in the city, or at her cottage at Grand Marais, everyone was always welcomed. Everyone that went to her cottage always requested their specific treats and dishes that mom made best and she lovingly complied!

She had some unique rituals, like throwing a pie in your face on your birthday and of course it happened when you least expected it.

In the past few years she spent her winters in Mexico with Andrew and Ron and Diane.
Mom loved to read, knit, crochet and cook and was always trying new recipes. She made the best egg salad sandwiches and the best banana bread! She enjoyed her stops at South Beach Casino with Andrew, Kinsmen Jackpot Bingo, and bingo at Grand Beach in the summer. She was a faithful Jeopardy viewer, a big Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Winnipeg Jets fan and loved her rock and roll music, especially ACDC. Mom lived life to the fullest but was taken away from us far too soon, we will always cherish our wonderful memories of her.

Mom is now partying with her parents, her sister and her son somewhere in Grand Beach, where everyday is sunny, the beer is icy cold, and the pickerel are always biting.

Cremation has taken place and as per mom’s wishes there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, mom would like you to donate to the charity of your choice.
