Obituary for Mary Drobey

Peacefully on January 18, 2021, our Aunt Mary Drobey passed away at Oakview Place at the age of 88 years.

Left to cherish Mary’s memory are her brother, Orest; nieces, Barb, Leslie, Corinne and Patti (Dan); her great-nieces and nephews, Adam, Colin (Rebecca), Masataka (Salina), Jordan, Rachel, Matthew, and great-great nieces, Hannah & Emily. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Nikolai and Nellie; brothers Billy and Johnny, and sister, Ollie.

Aunt Mare as she was best known, enjoyed a quiet life, but loved family gatherings especially at Christmas. She had a wonderful sense of humor and quick wit. Her one liners would catch you off guard and make you laugh. She was a crafter at heart and enjoyed knitting and rug hooking back in the good old days. We could say she was a collector of many things of sort. If you needed something, all you had to do was go to Aunt Mare and she would most likely have it. She enjoyed skating, books, watching TV, listening to the radio and music. Aunt Mare did love her food, but I think she was best known for her love of salt!

Mary was born in Vegreville, AB and moved to Winnipeg in her early adult years. She worked as a dental assistant and later in life as a caregiver to seniors in their homes. She was a very caring, gentle soul who was loved by all. After her sister suffered a stroke in 2000, Mary looked after Ollie until her own health declined.

Aunt Mare was always smiling when we visited and never complained. Our family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the incredible staff on 2 East at Oakview Place who cared for our Aunt over the last 5 years.

Respecting Aunt Mare’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life and private family interment will be held at a later date. We will cherish our memories of our Aunt Mare as they will forever live on in our hearts and never to be forgotten.

We love you Aunt Mare and will miss you dearly.
