Obituary for Mary Ellen Stawychny

Mary Ellen Stawychny

Mary Ellen Stawychny (nee Judge) passed away peacefully on October 2, 2022 at home.
She leaves behind to forever cherish her memory, her husband of 37 years Danny and son Braeden. She also leaves behind her sister Joanne (Mike Stanley and family), sister Susan Judge, brother Tom Judge (Bonnie and family), brother-in-law Alan Shepard, and sister-in-law Tanya Stawychny.
Mary was predeceased by her mother Noreen, father Joseph, sister Verna and brother-in-law Allen.

Mary grew up in the west end of Winnipeg and attended General Wolfe Junior High and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. She went on to complete her Bachelor of Education at the University of Winnipeg and her Post Baccalaureate degree in Special Education at the University of Manitoba. She taught for many years in the public-school system and then as an instructor at Red River College in the ACCESS Nursing Program until her retirement in 2016. A gifted athlete, Mary excelled in basketball and volleyball. She played 2 seasons for the University of Winnipeg Wesmen women’s volleyball team before a knee injury cut her career short.

Her greatest joy was when her son Braeden came into her life. Mary loved family road trips to numerous destinations throughout Canada and the United States. Many of them in the family motorhome, whom they lovingly named Oliver. Camping at Hecla Island was one of her favorite spots. She loved her trips to Vegas and her trips to N.F.L. games, especially to see her beloved Vikings play. She loved our daily walks at Little Mountain Park with our furry friend Leo.

Through all walks of Mary’s life, she developed strong friendships some of which have spanned over 50 years. She was extremely grateful for all of these relationships and thankful for all of the support she received.

A Celebration of Life for Mary will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre located at 3030 Notre Dame Avenue. A private family interment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers please feel free to make a donation to the Manitoba Movement Centre or Children’s Wish Foundation.

Mary’s life journey was about the people she touched.
