Obituary for Maxine Warenko

After a brief and courageous battle with cancer, Maxine passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on April 8th, 2021 at the age of 84 years.

Maxine was born on June 12th, 1936 in Snowflake, Manitoba. She was the eldest of seven children to Elliot and Chrissy Moir.

Maxine will be forever cherished and remembered by her children: Doug, Ken (Pamela), Don (Debbie), Keith (Jean); 14 grandchildren: Amanda, Kristy, Ryan, Adam, Sarah, Amber, Robin, Devin, Meghan, Richard, Brandon, Mark, James, Kayley; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Maxine will be missed by her sister Marion (George), and brothers Jim (Emily), George (Marva), Rick (Nikki), sister-in-law Arlene, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and many dear friends.
Maxine was predeceased by her loving husband Peter, her beloved daughter Barbara, parents Elliot and Chrissy, and dearest sisters Connie and Linda.

Maxine and Peter married on January 3, 1953. They lived happily together for 64 years in the Brooklands community of Winnipeg. From the beginning, their home became the gathering place for many family and friends and Maxine was seen by many as their “second Mom".

Maxine’s life was dedicated to her family and friends. She was known for her hard work and generous spirit. A loyal employee for 35 years, she still found time to graciously volunteer at school and most recently for the Brooklands Active Living Centre and the Sparling United Church.

Maxine was young at heart. She enjoyed theme parties, dressing up for all occasions, hair always done, and clothes and jewelry to match. Some of her favourite pastimes included long hours on the phone with friends and family, playing cards, watching curling, and spending the afternoon outside in her gazebo.

She will be remembered for her laugh, delicious homemade meals, buns and dainties, and her ability to stay up late with the ‘young ones’. Her unwavering giving and nurturing nature was displayed right until she passed.
Forever in our hearts, we love you. "Bye for now"

The family would like to express their gratitude for the support provided by The Winnipeg CancerCare and Palliative teams.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations are welcome to the Brooklands Active Living Centre, 1960 William Avenue W, Wpg MB, R2R 0C4 or to the Sparling United Church, Box 116, Rosser MB R0H 1E0
