Obituary for Nadia Hargreaves

Nadia Hargreaves
1925-2022

It is with great sorrow that we, the family of Nadia Hargreaves, announce her passing January, 20. 2022.
Nadia was born March 1, 1925 in Zolabawa, Ukraine and emigrated from Poland to Canada in 1930, settling in St. Boniface with her family.

In the 1950’s Nadia started a career as a hairdresser and instructor at American House of Beauty and owned her own business, Nadia’s Hairdressing in the 1960’s. Nadia later work for Sears Polo Park, Concourse Sports and part time for The Bay Unicity. Dad always joked she could sell ice to an Eskimo.

In her retirement years Mom was a volunteer at the Grace Hospital Auxillary and served as president. On a trip to Newfoundland for a conference, she and her friends happily “kissed the cod and drank the Screetch”! She made many friends through the auxillary and while serving on one of the women’s groups of Kirkfield Park United Church.

Family was #1 to Nadia as evidenced by her taking time off from work to care for her daughter Nena-Mary who passed June 1982. She was always cooking and baking for friends and family and was she ever good at it! The staff at the Royal Bank and the service department at Birchwood GMC always welcomed her delicious gifts of goodies. Nadia was a woman of great grace and beauty and her love and values will live on with her children, family and all those she touched.

Nadia was predeceased by the love of her life Tom who she spent 55 wonderful years with, her daughter Nena-May, her parents and in-laws, sister Anne Humiski, sister Luba Jaycena, twin sister Vera Marlais, sister-in-law Ollie Ceicko, nephew Robert Humiski and great -great nephew Jimi Humiski. Surviving is her son Randy Hargreaves of Montreal, daughter Vera-Lynn and husband Dan Fisher of San Antonio Texas, nephews Bill Humiski and Stephen Jaycena, nieces Shirly and John Schritt, Kathy and Merritt Penhall, Barbara Humiski, Carol Gilmore, great nieces Brittney Krumins, Cailin Ashmore, Krissy Gilmore, Melanie Mattson and great nephew Jim Humiski. Also, Ron and Donna Ceicko, Mike and Stacey Ceicko with Liam, Calin and Brayen. Many of whom had attended Nadia’s 95th Birthday Party at the Charleswood Personal Care Home.

All who knew her loved her and her light will shine on in them.
