Obituary for Robert "Bob" Barclay Gamble

Bob passed away peacefully on May 24th, 2021 at Grace Hospital. While the last year was difficult, he was positive until the end.

Bob is survived by his daughter Julia (Nathan), brother Charlie, friend Penny (his love and companion of many years), his former spouse Sheila Jonasson and by his many cousins, niece and nephews. He will be remembered by all his friends, many of whom he held dear through life. He is predeceased by his sister Sherri and brother Bob (Rosemary) and by his parents Eileen Gamble and Robert (Lynn) Stirton and Austin Gamble.

Bob was born in Winnipeg on February 26th, 1946 and grew up a proud Winnipeger. Bob was an avid athlete in his youth and a golfer through life. He loved camping, fishing, and photography. He enjoyed being involved in the life of St. Jude’s church and then St. John’s Cathedral (Winnipeg) and will be remembered for his strong voice and love of singing. He was always proud to have been approached by his good friend Kurt Winter to stand in for Chad Allan (The Expressions) for several concerts because of his beautiful singing voice. He was a passionate teacher and a dedicated substitute teacher in later years.

Due to COVID restrictions, a cremation has been held. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for family and friends to gather as they are able.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John’s Cathedral Music Scholarship Fund (St. John’s Cathedral, 135 Anderson Ave, Winnipeg, R2W 5M9) or to the Rec and Read program at the University of Manitoba in his name (https://give.umanitoba.ca/).

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Grace Hospital, who showed care and compassion to Bob and his family in the face of these difficult times.
