Our hearts are broken. Suddenly and peacefully on April 7, 2021, Roger Dennis, loving husband, devoted father and proud grandfather, passed away at the age of 81. He is survived by his beloved wife Hollie; daughter Alison (Marty) granddaughters, Katherine and Grace; son Colin (Renata) grandson Ethan; son Travis (Angie); sisters, Margaret Owen and Barbara Fisher as well as extended family and friends. Roger was predeceased by his father Victor, mother Lucy, and wife Donna.
A lifelong Winnipegger, Roger graduated from the Institute of Chartered Accountancy in 1964 and took quiet pride in later achieving his Fellowship designation. He spent the majority of his professional career dutifully in the service of the Provincial Government.
Roger enjoyed many varied interests and the personal relationships that came with them. His faith was very important to him and his loss will be felt by St. George’s Church, Crescentwood, to which he was most dedicated. Singing was a passion, having spent years up in the choir loft, performing with the Gilbert & Sullivan Society, Brochan Lom Men’s Choir, Joie de Vivre and just about anyone in need of a rich baritone. He loved curling and spending time chucking rocks at ‘The Rouge’, and countless rounds of golf with friends. Roger was a true friend and tireless volunteer, somehow always managing to answer the call when needed. He will be missed by many.
Dad was blessed with a keen mind, a clever wit, a gracious manner and a strong appreciation of a good single malt ‘scottie’. He was a true gentleman, treating all with respect while living his life by the Golden Rule. We’ll miss his sage advice, timely sense of humour and the shining example he set. We love you, “Poppa”.
Due to current conditions a small memorial service will take place on April 17, with plans for a future larger celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. George’s Memorial Fund, 168 Wilton St., Winnipeg R3M 3C3 at www.stgeorges.mb.ca or to a charity of your choosing.
