Obituary for Ruthann Long

Peacefully, following a lengthy illness Ruthann passed away at Riverview Health Centre on Friday, May 28, 2021.

Ruthann’s cherished daughter-in-law Debbie Larner predeceased her by a mere 41 hours.

She is survived by her loving, dedicated husband Gord Long, two sons, Robert and Russell, two granddaughters, Chantal and Courtney and two great-granddaughters Lucy and Olivia.

Ruthann was born in Winnipeg on March 8, 1945.

She retired from the Federal Government of Canada in 1995 after 23 years of service.

Nothing pleased Ruthann more than showing her love through her generosity towards people in need and those she cared about.

Ruthann and Gord were fortunate to travel to many locations throughout their years together.

They both enjoyed the time they shared at their cottage in Grand Beach, their “other home” in LacDuBonnet and their mobile home in Spruce Sands Trailer Park.

Perhaps her most cherished trips were the two vacations to Iceland that she took with her daughter-in-law Debbie. They both found Iceland to be enchanting and their favourite place on earth.

Ruthann could find the beauty and awe in many things and enjoyed decorating her environment with objects that expressed her individuality.

Gord would like to acknowledge the love, support and care that Jay and Janet Wiatrowski and Ken and Michelle Childs provided to us during the past difficult years.

Also special thanks to Dr. Fred Olynyk and Riverview Health Centre for their outstanding care.

Animals held a special place in Ruthann’s heart. In remembrance of Ruthann, donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society or any animal rescue organization would be greatly appreciated.

There will be no service.

Ruthann, you will be remembered and always missed.
