Obituary for Sigrid Margaret McKee (Bardal)

On the morning of December 8. 2020 Sigrid passed away peacefully. Sigrid was an awesome wife to Bill McKee for 57 years; and an incredible mother to Rod and Margaret; and a fantastic grandmother to Justin and Diana. Sigrid was a Sunday school teacher, music teacher, kindergarten teacher, and accomplished pianist.

Sigrid is often described as class, elegance, gentleness, and courage all rolled up in one. She will be best remembered for her unwavering positive attitude and her million-dollar smile.

Discovered as a gifted pianist at a young age Sigrid was accompanying school choirs by the age of 15. Always wanting to share her gifts. She was the accompanist for many different choirs and musical groups in Winnipeg, Germany, and Mesa.

Sigrid strongly believed when one was blessed with a musical gift, we had the responsibility to use it for the glory of God and to share it with everyone. Sigrid often reminded us that
" We must do our part and use our gifts well."

Sigrid was extremely proud of her family. Encouraging her son, Rod McKee and daughter, Margaret Ueland (McKee), grandchildren Diana and Justin Ueland and niece, Diane Bacha (McKee) with husband Percy and grand-nephew Jassi; to find their gift and follow their passion.

The Bardal-Finnbogason family was immensely important to her. Sigrid loved being a part of the Icelandic community. Growing up in The First Lutheran church, enjoying family get togethers during the Icelandic Festival in Gimli and the annual Finnbogason Christmas Eve; were all highlights of her illustrious journey.

Sigrid's greatest gift was the way she made everyone feel special. Sigrid always made time for others whether they were one of her kindergarten students, a friend, or an acquaintance in the community. She was genuinely interested in everyone who crossed her path.

At this time, we would like to first thank St Aidan’s Anglican Church family. Sigrid was a parishioner for many years and cherished the many loving friendships that grew from there. We would also like to thank Charleswood Care Home for taking such good care of Sigrid during her brief stay there. Thank you to Eirik Bardal of Neil Bardal Funeral Centre for all your help during this difficult time.

Sigrid is survived by her husband William James McKee, her children Rod and Margaret, her grandchildren Justin and Diana, her niece Diane Bacha (Percy) grandnephew Jassi, cousin Agnes Comack, and many friends and family. Sigrid was predeceased by her father Paul and mother Nia Bardal.

Due to current pandemic restrictions, cremation has taken place.
