SUSAN JANE SCOTT
September 15, 1944 ~ January 14, 2022

Susan Jane Scott was a caring and cherished sister, aunt, and friend. After many months of struggle, she left this world on January 14th at the age of 77.

She was predeceased by her brother Wayne, father Harold, and mother Amy. She is survived by her sisters Roslyn and Bonnie.

Born and raised in Winnipeg, she was a quiet, behind-the-scenes advocate for her city. She discreetly supported the advancement of First Nations youth and artists. She enabled post-secondary education for Indigenous students, summer camps for immigrant children, and successfully encouraged and mentored emerging and mid-career First Nations Artists. Susan’s dedication to Winnipeg was recognized with a Senate 150 Medal, which acknowledges Canadians who make their hometowns a better place to live. She also received a Paul Harris Fellow Award in appreciation of her years of service to others as a member of the Winnipeg Rotary Club. Both honours brought a shine to her modest heart.

Susan’s extended family included her niece Laura, nephews Benson and Maxwell, grandnieces Danielle, Madeline, Beatrice and Gisele, cousin Dale, first cousin once removed Paul, and long-time partner Angel. They all were fortunate to experience Susan’s thoughtful and creative support. Fond memories include making Halloween costumes, hand beading Christmas stockings, delicious choo-choo train birthday cakes, arranging flowers to welcome restaurant patrons, as well as adventures near and far.

Susan also adored her wonderful friends. Paul, a long-time family friend and advisor, was Susan’s rock. Paul’s wife Margaret provided supportive patience and kindness. Susan’s dear friend Leslie, with the support of husband Terry, was by Susan’s side to comfort her and enable out-of-town family to be with Susan as she passed. Her new friend Em harnessed her nursing skills to guide and support Susan’s treatment. In addition, there are numerous other friends and acquaintances with whom Susan enjoyed lunches at Deluca’s, musical concerts, and creative activities. All mattered to her greatly.

For the safety of all loved ones, plans to celebrate Susan’s life will take place in the spring of 2022.
