Obituary for Vincent Keith Horbay

VINCENT KEITH HORBAY
June 16, 1929 – December 20, 2022

Peacefully, at home on December 20th, 2022 our father Vincent Horbay left our world to be reunited with his love Colleen. He was a wonderful son, father, uncle and friend.

He approached life without fear, and he lived it to the fullest. He was an accomplished dentist, avid sportsman, enthusiastic bridge player, history buff and world traveller. There was not a sport that he did not try out and he excelled at all. He loved tennis, badminton and squash, logging many decades on the courts at the Winnipeg Squash Club and the Winnipeg Winter Club. He played basketball on his school team and at University of Manitoba while doing his undergrad. He was archery champion at University of Toronto while attending dental school in the 1950s. He loved golf and from a young age was a regular on the course. Skiing, downhill and cross country, plus telemarking were always on the agenda through the winter months. Fishing and hunting, every season he could. He was a sailor, windsurfer and a swimmer every summer at his beloved cottage in Minaki. The list goes on – he set an example for all of us to be active and to really live life.

He is predeceased by his parents Mary and Michael Horbay, his brother Edward Horbay and his beloved wife Colleen Horbay (McCaffrey). He will be missed by his children Angela (Jean-Marc), Beverly (Brian), Thomas (Deborah), Francesca and Mary-Lea (Michael), his grandchildren Russell (Trish), Paul, Patrick (Juliane), Liam and Michael, and great-grandchild Bentley, sister-in-law Pamela, and all of his wonderful nieces and nephews, extended family and friends, who were all such a large part of his life.

Our family wishes to recognize and thank the wonderful caregivers and team from Comforts of Homecare for their dedication to caring for our father and making his life better over the past couple of years. We would like to especially thank Kimberley, Luciana, Beckie, Sylvia, Raymond, Samantha and Robin, and of course Dr. Brian Sharkey, who cared for our parents with such a special touch for so many years. We are truly blessed.

A family interment will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to The Colleen Horbay Volunteer Award Fund at The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba.

Rest in Peace Dad – we all loved you
