Obituary for Neil Joseph Finnson

Neil passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. Neil is survived by his mother Josephine Finnson, sister Lee Solmundson, nieces Taylor Solmundson (Cody Cranston) and Lindsey Solmundson, brother Keith (Trudy) Finnson, nephews Nathan Finnson and Seth Finnson.

Predeceased by maternal grandparents John and Kathryn (Katie) Fedorchuk, paternal grandparents Fridrik and Helga Finnson, father Fridrik “Kristjon” Finnson and brother-in-law Curtis Solmundson.

Neil was born in Arborg, Manitoba and spent the early years of his life on the farm and then moved to Gimli, Manitoba where he graduated high school. He attended Red River College in Winnipeg, Manitoba where he began his working career. The West beckoned and Neil fell in love with Calgary, Alberta where he made his home and built his business. He made many friends along the way, loved to laugh and have fun, and when he had time away from his shop, he enjoyed golfing and fly fishing along the Bow River.

A Celebration of Life will be planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Neil’s long-time charity World Vision.

Be nice to your brother …. One day he’ll be your best friend.

Thinking of the family and sending our condolences. We were just so saddened to hear about Neil. He will be very missed by all of his friends here in Calgary. He had recently brought our son a stuffed baby yoda, we will cherish it forever. He made us laugh anytime we saw him and always looked forward to visiting with him.
Lots of love,
Coby, Malory & Alden Huether

Condolences to Neil’s family and friends! I didn’t know Neil that well, just through a few real estate transactions; however he was always a pleasure to work with and made me laugh! The world will miss his presence, but I’m sure he’s in a great place today!!!
